Shake it Off
Kick the dust off….or 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟. Whatever phrase you use, if the environments, people, and habits in your life aren’t encouraging you to be more like Jesus…𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟.
.
Jesus said it like this:
“And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them. MARK 6:10-11
.
He says no matter what stands in your way...to 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟...who knew Jesus was the OG of that catch phrase?
.
But really, when you are a 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 (not when you go to church because everyone else is and it’s a feel good for your family). When you’re a 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞, and your thoughts, your life and your narrative is about Jesus, there will be tons of things you have to 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟.
.
There’s a ton of things that church leaders worry about - finances, buildings, attendance, what does everyone think of the children’s ministry, etc. But the questions that keep me up at night:
Are we holy?
Are we obeying God?
Are we making disciples of all the world?
.
Right now our world is broken and we have work to do. So let’s get about the business of saving souls and shake the rest off. In the grocery store line, the doctor’s office, school drop off line…can we get rid of the biases, the attractions and just point to Jesus?
.
Church events are great. Being right about things and having things “our way” feels good. But when those things are why and when you follow Jesus, then you gotta 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟.
.
If these stories are real, if this Jesus is real, if the resurrection is real… then we’ve got to 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟.
